Year 6 Pupils Visit Hexham Abbey
Year 6 children have been looking at religious buildings in RE this term. As part of their studies they went to Hexham Abbey last half term.
There, they learnt about the history of the abbey and formed a 'time line' to show when and how the abbey was founded; they took part in a mock christening; they took rubbings and sketches from around the abbey and visited the crypt.
They also had a tour of the gift shop where they learnt how all the money raised from the shop was put back towards the upkeep of the abbey. Finally pupils took part in the 'monk procession'. The children put on their monk outfits and walked in procession down the stone steps and through the abbey; they then took their place in the pews.
