The department for children, schools and families have confirmed that three Bedlington Middle Schools can join Bedlington High School in becoming specialist maths and computing colleges.
The move was celebrated across the three middle schools, Guidpost, Meadowdale and West Sleekburn, as well as at BCHS.
Headteacher at Meadowdale, Tim Stout was delighted with the news. "All four schools are already working closely together, but the award of specialist status means we can develop a shared ethos for future success."
Each school is now a specialist maths and computing college in its own right. Jane Parnably, headteacher at Guidepost told us how pleased she was with the news. "I'm delighted for the school and the community. Staff from across the partnership have worked hard to gain this award, this highlights the importance that we're placing on developing key skills across our community."
Kieran McGrane, principal at BCHS told us, "Students across all four schools are on their summer break, but they will celebrate the joint specialism when they return in September. It's a very exciting time to be part of this extended community."
