A team of students in the XL group have come up with an innovative way of dealing with potential bullying.
At the start of the summer term a group of students decided it was time to make a big change to their school, they wanted to look at the issue of bullying and in particular how BCHS deals with the problem. The students were part of the year 10 xl group, a course designed by the Princes trust. Their first task was to research bullying, to find out what it really was; did you know you can be bullied online? With knowledge of the issue gained the group looked at the schools current policies for dealing with bullying and also how fellow BCHS students felt about the subject.
The group worked tirelessly for weeks creating surveys and analysing data but came up with a simple observation - the school could be doing more. So it was up to them to make this happen, the group prepared a presentation for the school principal outlining where they felt the school was falling short and then what strategies could be introduced to combat the problem. The presentation was a success, with one of the groups suggested solutions being rolled out all over the school site within a few short weeks of the presentation. The idea was Bully Boxes.
Bully boxes have now been placed outside of all student services. The xl groups student surveys showed that students often found it difficult to speak to teachers in school regarding bullying issues. The idea is that any concerns students have regarding bullying are put in the box, it will then be emptied daily and any concerns will be passed to the appropriate member of staff.
If you have any issues, pop it down on a piece of paper and put into the bully box outside your student service office.
