'Treat every new script as a classic and every classic as a brand new script', is one example of the insightful and interesting tips that Richard Twyman of the RSC offered the Year 12 and 13 drama students prior to our performance of 'Blackout' on Wednesday 25th March.
Before Richard arrived many of us were under the impression that we would be greeted by an old man with a long white beard who recited Shakespeare at every opportunity! Thankfully we were very wrong! Richard, the winner of three Olivier Awards, was young, charming and his open approach soon made everyone feel comfortable; it was as though we had been friends for years.

The workshop that the 'Blackout' team took part in focussed on the meaning and delivery of the words and because Richard has done so much work with the RSC we read from Macbeth and participated in some very interesting and unique tasks such as placing a sticky note on a partner whenever an important line was delivered. Needless to say we all soon looked fabulous with our faces covered in pink sticky post-it notes!
On behalf of everyone who took part in 'Blackout' I would like to say thank you to Richard for his time, enthusiasm and hard work, and also to Miss Romartinez for organising the whole thing. It was fantastic and we all look forward to performing the play at the Lyceum in Edinburgh on the 12th June!
