Students from West Sleekburn Middle school have been busy making soap for a Valentine's day enterprise market
The students from year 6 and year 8 worked with design consultant, Danielle Dunn from Imagine and looked at how they would set up a mini soap making enterprise for the day. The students researched which soaps types and fragrances they'd like to use and got work in one of the Science labs at Bedlington High School.
"It was great fun." Adele Ovington told us. "We set up a mini production line, moulding, cutting and decorating the soap."
Once the teams had made their soap, they had to prepare it for sale in the market. They designed and made the packaging and labels and took the soap to the school hall to sell. "We had a lot of interest during break, but we decided to take the product to the customers!" Laura Edgar a year 8 student who swapped her school hat for a business hat on the day. "We took our soap out around the school diners and yard and sold lots, it was easy to get business. Everyone wanted to buy a special valentine's gift, even the teachers!"
All of the soap sold and the profit made went to charity. If you are interested in finding out how to make soap with your students, please contact the school.
