On the afternoon of 17th January some Year 9 students had an exciting treat. The University of Northumbria Routes into Languages Roadshow came to BCHS.
Both Lecturers and students from the university came, bringing with them a chance to learn some Chinese and Polish, do an online quiz and to interview some of the students. We were particularly impressed by the university students, who come from many different countries and can all speak at least two other languages, as well as their mother tongue.
They introduced themselves to us and we had to guess what language they were speaking. Blyth Community College also brought some of their students to take part in the event and many thanks to our Year 12 linguists who assisted them.
Year 9 students commented that it was an enjoyable experience and it helped them realise how useful language skills will be in the future.
